The Story of Our Yurt - Rentals Opening in 2026

Where It Started

Back in 2016, Erika visited a conservation center/yoga studio and saw her first Yurt. She felt inspiration and future that was impossible to ignore. From that moment on, she had a vision of creating a sanctuary for her community. After a few posts on social media about seeking to learn more about real estate, a beloved colleague lead us to a landowner who saw our vision. We learned of the land’s current use status limiting permanent buildings, so that is when all of the signs all pointed to the yurt. Surrounded by the elements, it invites you to slow down, know the forest, and listen inward. Our four-season yurt reflects our mission of embracing every part of life, even the uncomfortable, and offering a safe space to grow, rest, and restore balancing the adventure of our mountain hikes and trips with a place of grounding and calm.

Finding the Land

When we found our current property years later, we first planned to build an A-frame. But because the land is in current use, only temporary structures were allowed. Every sign pointed to the yurt, and it immediately aligned with Rooted Rose’s mission: reconnecting with the earth, embracing all seasons, and offering a space of calm in contrast to our more adventurous hikes and excursions.

What the Yurt Offers

The yurt will serve as a base camp for 160 acres of exploring. It will host private overnight stays, workshops, community gatherings, leadership trainings, and Rooted Rose events. Whether visitors want an adventure, a fire and a book, or a place to reconnect with nature, the yurt will be a welcoming home for all.

When you step inside, we want you to feel held, safe, and restored. The yurt invites stillness and an escape from the constant movement of daily life. It’s a balance of the modern and natural world while offering space to rest, create, and reconnect with both your inner and outer landscapes.

The Build Begins

When we signed the lease in January 2023, the land needed love. There were over 100 old tires, an aging shed, and only small traces of trails. We spent months clearing and restoring the space before starting the platform in Fall 2024. We planned to raise the yurt in November, but weather delays pushed us to May 2. When our community gathered to lift the rafters, stretch the canvas, and bring the structure to life. We’re continuing to build out the deck, bathroom, and shower sanctuary from the ground up.

With the help of our friend and designer, Julie Schena of Skinner Properties, we’re creating a warm, welcoming interior that sleeps up to six guests. The goal is to make it feel like a mountain home cozy enough for a sleepover, inspiring enough for a retreat. Through Kiva lending and community support, we’re aiming to finish the interior for 2026 rentals.

A New Chapter for Rooted Rose

This yurt represents the next evolution of Rooted Rose: a bridge between our outdoor adventures and a more sustainable, long term vision for community and conservation. It allows us to offer healing and connection in a new way as we grow our own family and our mission.
